What's wrong with being a "core gamer"? I've been one all my life!

Well said. Making the best of a bad situation by playing to good games and great value should be applauded, even if it's just to remind Sony that they have to deliver this year on the exclusives front. Which they will of course, but competition is healthy.

Yep. The only people who win in a price war are consumers, and it's bloody lovely to be on the winning side after taking so much BS from all comers.

@Mechanism: to me, basic business suggests that console manufacturers make most of their money from services and software. Putting the console into as many homes as possible while your competitor is struggling on the exclusives front makes a lot of sense.

However, your point RE "Just because the company on a whole is doing great, doesn't mean the XBox division have bottomless pockets" is well made. No company will indefinitely support a division that's costi...

@Audiggity: Oh come on. My mates and I actually bought GTA V because we loved the idea of the heists - that's what tipped us over the edge. There's entitlement and then there's false advertising - I'd say this was the latter.

The demo is coming in 2015 with Type-0. If the game doesn't follow towards the end of the year, then Squeenix should never have announced it so stupidly early - and that'll be a disappointment right there I guess...

@Death: Well said, well argued, well substantiated. Nice one.

Oh gawd. I said I wouldn't buy the new version since I've already completed GTA V... but this looks fun... and all my friends will own it...

... damn! Still, I'll hold out for the PC version.

In fairness, even this review has plenty of positive things to say about PS TV.

4081d ago 1 agree0 disagreeView comment

Nah, it's just that negative gets hot/noticed and most of the joy tends to go largely ignored. :(

I wish that Sony had bundled this with a DualShock 4 and a few months of PS+ in the UK - they could have called it the "PS4 Essential Kit" or "multiroom package" or something.

Either way, after backing the OUYA I'm inclined to steer clear of anything resembling a Microconsole (plus, you know, I own a Vita), but I'm glad to see that people are enjoying PS TV after a few weeks. So many writers offered a negative review but didn't seem to live wit...

Well said. Nothing can kill an innovative if niche game faster than unrealistic expectations and hype.

Actually I also wonder if The Order might -- might -- benefit from the low expectations. Fingers crossed.

Erm, not quite.

"Which, like so many shooters from Gears to Ghost Recon Future Soldier, involves controlling Galahad's pistol arm in a drab rail-shooting section. Shoot some grunts in the face. Then some more run out. Great." - Me"

It's based on and linked to personal experience, but with luck, it could be a surprise contender that shatters low expectations!

There's also the fact that Sony doesn't need to, seeing as they're sitting pretty on millions of year-one sales and have exclusives on the way. It's selling fine and they don't need to do anything except finally release some of their most anticipated titles.

On the other hand, the Xbox One was a false start after Kinect/TVTVTV/Mattrick's awful brand sabotage. Spencer has put a lot right, and good on him, but they now have to work hard to catch up and t...

Yeah, it seems like a weird reaction. On the one hand people (correctly) say that the Xbox One is underpowered compared to the PS4, but by the same token, that makes its margins much higher and easier to cut seeing as Kinect was the thing losing money in the first place. MS are taking a bit of a loss but recoup, historically, through games and services as you say.

And, erm, Windows.

4082d ago 1 agree1 disagreeView comment

So what if the system is underpowered? It costs less than its competitor, so that's the same as any generation. The superior machine costs a bit more, but the less powerful machine offers more attractive bundles and is quicker out of the gate in terms of exclusives.

That's how it's always worked.

4082d ago 1 agree4 disagreeView comment

Yeah, the key is that we want all these games to be great, but we need to keep our expectations in check and publishers need to make sure that their hype is actually appropriate!

Even a great game can still be a disappointment if gamers expect it to be better, or something completely different.

4082d ago 4 agree1 disagreeView comment

Now that's true. Don't know if there's much trade value for Ghosts and Forza is a download, but it might be possible to sell them on with Murdered to offset one of those games.

4082d ago 0 agree0 disagreeView comment

Yeah, agreed. Microsoft has cut the price and released some great games, why wouldn't they be keen to work with retailers to get their console out there?

4082d ago 1 agree5 disagreeView comment

But why?

Seriously Capcom, now's the time to announce DMC 5.

That said, I loved DMC4 - even Nero. His awesome arm made up for his astonishing emo-ness.

It's literally Mirrormoon EP (google it), just with more procedural generation. Great concept, only make sure you don't have crazy expectations and think it's something it isn't.
